This is the home of Vertai and Jendayi, characters played on PernMUSH, a text-based roleplaying game based on the _Dragonriders of Pern_ series created by Anne McCaffrey.
The pair are members of the Dijilia family, a small caravan of entertainers, peddlers and tinkers that make their circuit every Turn through the central continent. The family travels between Telgar in the north and Ista in the south. Having come of age, and with an eye on creating a venue different from that of the larger train, Vertai and Jendayi have decided to deal in exotic and luxury goods. As such, they don't have an established route and travel based on what they've acquired and where it might sell.
They currently own one modest wagon and four runners, and work with an older couple, (NPCs) Emidio and Bina. An arrangement has been made with High Reaches Weyr to use the Weyr as a base of operations during the colder months and to travel the High Reaches sweep area during the warmer months. Whether the majority of dragonriders will be pleased to be used as transportation during part of the Turn remains to be seen.
If you'd like to be added as a friend to this journal, please leave a comment or speak with Jendayi or Vertai in game.

Note: We've decided to not post every log we're in. Both of us retain "Ugh, I was terrible in that scene, don't post it" veto votes, so logs will be posted on a basis of how much we did or did not suck while in them. We do, however, log everything; if there's a log you'd like to see or have emailed to fill in your own records, please just ask.

Jendayi finds a way to make peace with the future.
OOC Edit: It helps when I add in the italics, properly.

R'hin approaches the Dijilia to (mostly) pay for his new outfit. During their conversation, Jendayi puts on display her lack of consideration for well-loved tradition, and Vertai and R'hin come to an unspoken understanding between them.
( So! Are we all friends now? I lost track. )

Jendayi has convinced R'hin to pay cost for one of the Dijilia Gather outfits, in return for sending customers their way. Harley assists the trader in navigating the storerooms, and then serves as co-audience when the bronzerider gives the ladies a show. The encounter ends with a rather odd exchange between rider and merchant.
( Are you the diplomat of the Dijilia, Jen? )

Ayana of Igen visits and is convinced to spend hard-earned marks on Vertai's dubious "banana-cinnamon liquor". Harley makes an appearance as well but escapes before Jendayi can properly bait the hook.

The Dijilia wagon makes its way to High Reaches Weyr and sets up for business on the Weyr's lake shore. Vertai and Jendayi exchange banter, teasing their chaperones.
( Everything's brighter up here. )

| Jendayi's Appearance and History |
[09/27/06 @ 5:27 pm] |
Jendayi seems made for the hour of midnight, being of dark complexion and even darker bearing. Her heritage is clear only in that it is mixed, producing a full-figured young woman of cafe au lait skin and rough-textured hair just shy of true black. The sun has streaked the waves of her hair with brassy shades, coppers and burgandies like the tails of comets in a sleepy sky. Her eyes, framing a hawkish nose, are indecisive in hue; they shift between star-flecked pitch and sapphires in shadow, the matter decided by the surrounding light. Only her smile has the sun in it, full lips meant for laughter and reciting lovers' lyrics to audiences both large and intimate.
Formal Attire: Bracelets, bangles and cuffs sing their own song on her wrists, coppers, bronzes and golds ringing out proudly. Those colors are repeated in the hem of her gown, metallic threads woven through a delicate lilac sari wrapped about her hips, the free end partially covering a lilac and cream blouse before tumbling over one shoulder to dangle free. An oval of silky gauze flutters over Jendayi's hair, held in place by a Juliet cap of wire and flashing copper beads.
Riding Attire: She is dressed for riding- runner, rather than dragon- in a crisp white blouse laced open to the sternum, tucked into a pair of heavy chestnut trousers. The pants are protected by leather chaps in a deeper shade of russet, the outside seams decorated with fringe and bronze conches. Clasped about her throat is a necklace of chunks of turquoise, polished to a milky gleam. Some protection from the sun is offered by a wide-brimmed felt hat, banded in crimson. Old boots of brown leather complete the outfit.
Vendor Attire: Her attire is exotic, to say the least. The style is reminiscent of salwar kameez, with a sleeveless fitted tunic that covers her from shoulders to just past her knees. Full-legged purple trousers continue on to narrow ankles and delicate slippers with a curled toe and a low heel. The tunic and slippers are a lush shade of lilac, heavily embroidered with an autumn garden of herbs and flowers- bright colors all fighting each other, intended to be eye-catching. A gauzy undershirt is worn beneath the tunic, fluttering sleeves doing little to cover her arms or the multitude of bracelets, bangles and cuffs that sing as they shift on her wrists.
"Normal" Attire: It seems impossible for Jendayi to dress as normal people do; even while attempting it, her attire stands out from that of others. In this instance, she is wearing a fairly simple underdress, a long-sleeved kirtle of a rusty red shade, the scooped neck baring her collarbone and the full skirt swirling around low-heeled boots. Typically this would be worn under a heavy tapestry surcoat but she has chosen instead to fashion the surcoat of wispy sisal gauze in an exaggerated open weave that brings to mind thoughts of spiderwebs. Delicate strands of charcoal drift from shoulder to ankle over the kirtle, every intersection of threads marked with a glittering jet bead. Her thick hair has been twisted into a lover's knot at the nape of her neck, almost hidden beneath a snood that matches the bead-decorated outer garment. For once, she wears no other jewelry.

| Vertai's Appearance and History |
[09/27/06 @ 5:09 pm] |
Vertai seems to have been composed of dust and shade. Dark tresses spill from his head like coils of smoke, a grey-black weave that shrouds his lean shoulders. Even when he gathers them into a ponytail, or tightly braids his forelocks with colored beads, they're forever escaping to hang on the air. His eyes bear the molten amber hue of fire seen through fog, offering both warmth and a sense of distance. Smooth, earthen skin suggests a southern heritage; stubble dusts his supple lips, and a strong brow plays against the sharpness of his features. He's tall and narrow, his body stretched out like a shadow cast at sunset, with whipcord muscles lashed over long bones. The man's right hand and forearm are deeply and noticeably scarred. Woolen breeches pool at his knees in folds of charcoal, tucked into worn wherhide riding boots. A duster cloaks him in mouse-brown leather, its shoulders and skirts webbed with silver cracks. Where this teamster's coat hangs open, it shows the rumpled cream of the loose linen shirt he wears beneath. When he moves, one might see flashes of the dagger sheathed at the back of his waist.
Formal attire: He's clad in a calf-length coat of quilted, russet silk. When he moves, one might catch the sheen of a subtle jacquard or the subdued sparkle of golden embroidery on the high collar, cuffs and hem. Beneath, woolen breeches left in their natural, sandy hue hang loose before they're pinched in at the shins by the tops of his leather boots. These last are low, glove-soft and chocolate brown, meant more for lounging than labor.
